While it’s true that there are benefits when optimizing your site for search engines, it is still better to start focusing on your audience first since search engines change their algorithms and give priorities to user-friendly sites and not to those which are created solely for SEO purposes.

3. Research your primary keywords and keyword phrases extensively. This is of primary importance in every SEO campaign. Why? Because getting no.1 in for example, Google for unrelated keyword will not bring your site any profit. Make sure you use long tail keywords instead of general terms so that visitors can easily find your site. You can use Google Adwords and other keyword generating tools to find the right keywords for your niche.

4. Content is king. So, make sure you write only unique, original, and high quality content. If you can’t do this, you can hire writers to do content writing for a fee, let’s say $3 for a 500-word article.

5. Do work on making your site a link worthy one. To do this, you must include news, tips, and high quality content on your site. Plus, make sure to educate your online visitors through the use of videos and collect feedback from them.

1. Make sure search engines can find your website by putting your chosen keywords into the title of your website. These tags are found at the top of the website between the head tags. The chances of getting targeted traffic to your site greatly increase with this step.

Treat the title like a headline. Try to draw attention to your site with a good headline because this is what people will see in the search results.

2. Link pages within your site together using the keyword as the anchor text. This works better with large sites with a lot of pages, and the more links you use with the keyword as the anchor text the better.

3. Ensure the text with the title tag is used in the body of your website. Search engines do not like it when your title doesn’t appear to be related to the body.

Also when writing the body of your website, use your keywords once or twice. You can bold them to make them stand out or highlight them. Use them in some of the subheadings too.

4. Ensure that each page on your website has a different title – when search engine robots scan your website they might assume that each page is the same if they all contain the same heading. If this happens it might not index your website.

5. Meta tags are no longer as important as they used to be. Don’t stick a load of meaningless keywords in here, two or three targeted keywords should be fine.

6. Don’t link to link farms. Search engines usually know where these are and do not like them!!

7. Your website must be designed for a person, not a robot. Make sure all webpages are designed this way as search engine robots prefer pages that are human-friendly and contain data that is relevant to the search query.

8. Include a Contact Page and Terms of Use page on your website. You can usually get a template by searching on Google. Search engine robots look for these and it makes your site look more professional.

9. Make sure every image on your website is described using the alt tags. This will help search engines that index images to find your pages and will also help readers who use text only web browsers.

10. Submit your website manually to search engines. If you use a submission service or software your website might get banned.
